Maria Sharapova loses to Caroline Garcia at the Stuttgart Open. This is the fourth lost match in a row for the Russian and a drop from the top 50 world ranking.
The five time grand slam champ lost 3-6 7-6 (7-6) 6-4 to World number seven Caroline Garcia of France.
Sharapova, who is recently backed to the courts after 15 months from a doping ban expressed her desire to win more matches. She however has lost all the matches since the Australian Open at the second round.
Sharapova beat Germany’s Tatjana Maria and Latvian 14th seed Anastasija Sevastova at the year’s opening Grand Slam in January, before losing to two-time Slam champion Angelique Kerber in the third round.
She then lost to Romanian qualifier Monica Niculescu in Qatar and Japan’s Naomi Osaka in Indian Wells.
Sharapova has not climbed back into the top 40 since returning from her ban in April 2017.
The 31 year old Russian and five-time Grand Slam Champion has not displayed her winning side since the Australian Open. Sharapova was on a 15-month break from doping ban. We suspect that this break is a contributing factor to her recent losses. It is unclear if she has been training while on the ban but if she wasn’t, then there is a high probability that this break is what’s causing her to lose.
Hopefully she will get back into shape and start serious training and hopefully regain her top 50 position in the world ranking. If not, she will most likely keep losing to the next-gen players. This is not our wish however; we want her to rise back to the star that she has always been.
All in all, we look forward to seeing the upcoming matches and how she will fair against other pro players as well as the next-gen players. All the best Maria.
